Over the last few weeks, we have heard from many of our participants and sponsors that they wish they had a bit more time to prepare for the first Spin For Life event. We would like to give that to you.

After much discussion, we—together with the Canadian Cancer Society—have decided to reschedule the Calgary Spin For Life event to October 17, 2020. This date change will allow us to not only succeed in Calgary but to also successfully roll out additional fundraisers across Canada.

All of our other plans for Spin For Life remain the same. This world-class, interactive fundraiser still raises funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, which will directly contribute to the ongoing development of Canada’s world-class cancer research, information and care. All existing donations are already with the Canadian Cancer Society. This will not change any donations already made or future donations.

The progress on Spin For Life so far is due to the hard work and ingenuity of our people and the contributions of our partners, sponsors, registrants and supporters. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of these individuals for their commitment to Spin For Life.

Spin For Life will create opportunities for our participants, sponsors, and donors to contribute directly to the development of Canada’s world-class cancer research, information and ongoing care, and we hope you are as proud as we are to be moving forward with this important fundraiser.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at [email protected]

We are committed to Spin For Life and thank you for your support.

Questions & Answers

1. I can’t attend that date, can I get my registration back?
We can refund your registration fee. The donations made have already been sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, and they are non-refundable. Your registration can also be transferred to someone else because of this date change. If you would like to transfer your registration instead, please let us know before December 31, 2019.

2. I can’t attend that date, can I transfer my registration to someone else?
If you cannot attend the new date, but have someone who would like to take your place, we would be happy to transfer your registration to someone else. Please contact [email protected] with your name and the name, email address and phone number of the person you will be transferring the registration to. We need these transfer requests in before December 31, 2019. We will work with both of you to make sure everything gets transferred smoothly and credit your current donation amount to a new spinner.

3. I thought registration wasn’t transferable, has this changed?
Since this is a change that we have made, we are making an exception for registration transfers. If you are unable to attend the new date, your registration can be transferred to a different person. This is the only time that registrations will be transferable.

4. What happens to my donations?
All your existing donations have already been sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, and are already contributing directly to the development of Canada’s world-class cancer research, information and ongoing care. Your donation numbers will remain the same, and as a bonus, you now have even more time to meet your fundraising goals and train for Spin For Life.

5. Why are you changing the date?
We’ve received a significant number of requests from participants and sponsors hoping for extra time to build their teams, train, and fundraise. After a lot of consideration, we decided that changing the date sets Spin For Life and all our participants and sponsors up for the highest possible success. This new date will allow us to not only succeed in Calgary, but to also successfully roll out our national plan. Spin For Life is an important part of the Canadian fundraising framework, and our early success in Calgary is setting us up to raise even more funds across Canada for the Canadian Cancer Society. We are committed to Spin For Life, and thank you for your support.

6. Will Spin For Life still happen? Is there a chance it could be cancelled?
Yes, Spin For Life will still happen; no, it will not be cancelled. We are committed to Spin For Life, and thank you for your support. This date change is actually a great sign of even bigger things to come. By moving the first event to October, we will be able to not only succeed in Calgary, but to also successfully roll out our national plan. Ultimately, we will be able to extend Spin For Life to cities across Canada and make an even larger impact on the Canadian Cancer Society’s cancer research and care programs.

Spin For Life values inclusion and removing barriers to entry for participation; any skill level, beginner to pro, is encouraged to join. There’s no need for any special equipment or gear – alongside 180 spin bikes, Spin For Life is equipped with low-impact floor and arm pedal machines. Spinners are in a controlled indoor environment where the risk is low, medical support is always close-at-hand, and the weather won’t affect the experience. Our participants’ physical and fundraising commitments are also designed to be manageable challenges: one hour of sweat with a minimum $1,000 raised for charity.

Thanks to our growing list of like-minded sponsors and patrons, 100% of donations stay with the Canadian Cancer Society. With each event, Spin For Life aims to raise a minimum of $1.44 million with new host cities being added every year for a ten year goal of $180 million. Tax receiptable donations can be allocated to any of three categories: Clinical Trials, Wheels of Hope, or the Alberta Cancer Research Fund (which was specially created to be funded by Spin For Life). Even in our first year, we are aiming to break the World Record for most money raised with a static cycling event.

Over the course of eight hours, our Spinners will collectively ride the circumference of the world: 40,075 km. Each hour is themed around distinct global landscapes with LED screens, theatre lighting, and mapped projections transporting participants through a beautiful, challenging, and cathartic experience. Emcees and Instructors will lead the music-filled Spin Hours, introducing stories of cancer heroes, researchers, clinicians, and remembrances of those we have lost. All culminating in a world record ceremony and on-site after party when we finish spinning around the globe!
